I looked at the alien ware, but its just a little too expensive since you have to buy the drive, windows and everything.

Best answer:

Answer by Colanth
My wife is a serious gamer (we looked at the Alienware laptop, but ,000 is a bit much.) She bought an older model of http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=5270805&CatId=4938 and is very happy with it. It should run just about any game out there today.

Question by ♥: Is this a good laptop for gaming and Sims?
Someone answered one of many of my questions and said the Dell Studio 15 is good for Sims 3. I just want a 2nd opinion. Will it run Sims 3?

Best answer:

Answer by bon-gart
Well, ignore opinions. Why deal with what people think, when you can deal with cold, hard facts. Here are the system requirements for the Sims 3.

For computers using built-in graphics chipsets under Windows, the game requires at least:

    * Intel Integrated Chipset, GMA 3-Series or above
* 2.6 GHz Pentium D CPU, or 1.8 GHz Core 2 Duo, or equivalent
* 2 GB RAM

The baseline Dell Studio 15 has a a 2.1ghz dual core processor, an Intel GMA 4500 and 3gb Ram.

So, aside what anyone might personally think of that computer, it WILL play the Sims 3. The quality level at which it will play the game, however, completely depends on the other software you have running at the same time… like whether or not you have a pile of stuff running at startup (Quicktime, Adobe Acrobat, Realplayer, Daemon Tools, the WindowsSidebar, etc, etc).

As far as OTHER games go, you would have to know the system requirements of the specific game you are thinking of, to be able to compare them to the system specifications of that laptop, to know if that laptop will play them. There is no way to say that this laptop is a “gaming” laptop. It is most definitely NOT a gaming laptop. Gaming laptops have processors that exceed 2.4ghz in speed, and have higher end video chipsets.

end of line

Question by Chris: Suggestions for Gaming Laptop Upgrade?
I am looking to upgrade to a laptop that can run Empire: Total War on maximum settings, keeping in mind for the future that the games I would play on it would be mostly RTSs/Strategy games of the graphical variety (Empire: Total War, Dawn of War 2, Company of Hereos type stuff.)

I heard that the Alienware M17x was the best option. Is this true? If so, how should I configure it?

Thanks!

Best answer:

Answer by PC BUILDER
Why not just go desktop so you can keep upgrading the video card years down the road?

If you have the money to spend then yea, buy an alienware but I would make sure you get a good graphics card in it because its the ONLY one youre gonna get in there.

I am a crazy gamer. Dont know which laptop is good. I m about to buy a 64 Bit system one but dont know which graphics card is good. Tell me anyone. Dont worry on budget.

Best answer:

Answer by rtobyr
Alienware specializes in making gaming computers and laptops. They’re more reasonable than you’d think: The lowest end model starts at ,100 and has almost exactly the same specs as a Macbook Pro. Even if you don’t purchase an Alienware, you can go onto their online customization tools and see how much they’d charge you for video upgrades. Knowing that more expensive=better, you can get a good idea of what video cards are good for gaming.
